Senja

Senja is the second largest island in Norway (not counting the Svalbard Islands) and is located near the middle of the Troms county coastline. It is located close to the town Finnsnes, with road connection using the Gisund Bridge. Senja houses the Ånderdalen National Park, several traditional fishing communities, and it is also the home of the world's largest troll, called Senja Trollet (The Troll of Senja).

The western coast of Senja, facing the open sea, is dominated by rugged mountains going straight from the sea, with some fishing villages (like Gryllefjord, Husøy) wherever there is some lowland. The eastern part of the island is dominated by forests, salmon rivers and agriculture. Senja is mentioned in David Howarth's WWII novel We Die Alone. The municipalities located on Senja are Lenvik (part of which is on the mainland), Berg, Torsken, and Tranøy Senja had 7782 inhabitants on January 1, 2008. Senja is often called "Norway in a miniatur", because of the nature on Senja. Senja is well known for it's nature, and is a tourist attraction for travellers.
