Wadenswil, in the vernacular Wädi, is a political community and small town in the district Horgen of the Canton of Zurich in Switzerland.
Wadenswil is located on the upper left on the shore of Lake Zurich room on the mountain highway A3 Zurich-Chur. The town of Wadenswil includes the villages of Au and ZH mountain. In the canton of Zurich is Wadenswil with 1736.34 ha of land for the town, about 1030 ha of which is used for agricultural purposes.
It is characterized by the interplay of research and economics, since Wadenswil has changed after the demise of the textile industry. Such initiatives are from the founding organization Wadenswil (grow). Largest employer is the school Wadenswil.
The textile industry brought home work in the early years of the 19th century. Many factories were built, silk weaving Gessner AG which was founded in 1833 still exists. In the years around 1900 Wadenswil enjoyed a second strong upturn, as the factory work homeworking baton. Apart from the textile industry there were the starch factory and the brewery Wadenswil, which were major employers as well. The mid-1970s led to the decline of the industry, which currently only plays a minor role.
Wadenswil lies on the railway line Zurich - Chur and is supported by two S-Bahn lines of the Zurich transport connections developed.
Archaeological finds from the Neolithic period show an early settlement of the peninsula Au. Other finds from the Bronze Age and from the Roman period (1st century) show that the area of present-day Wadenswil been inhabited for over 5000 years.
