Hawi

Hawi is situated near the town of Kapa‘au. Together they comprise the most densely populated region in the district of North Kohala. Historically this part of Kohala is significant as the birthplace of Kamehameha I and the location of the Mo‘okini heiau. The two towns were once busy commercial centers during the operation of the Kohala Sugar plantation.

This sleepy little town is filled with art galleries, shops and a few restaurants.

Several historic buildings still stand dating to the mid-1800's. The Rev. Elisa Bond's Estate is currently undergoing rennovation and will soon be open to the public.

Upolu Airport is a small plane airport located 3 miles west of Hawi. Sightseeing flights ofter depart from here.
