Montauk

Oh, what can one say? Montauk. The End. The Last Resort. The Beginning. Where Paradise Begins. At least that's what the bumper stickers lovingly declare. Montauk is the very last gem on the string of the famous Hampton's pearls. However, had it not been for the native Indians, the Montaukets, Montauk most likely would have been named "Very East Hampton" or "Lighthouse Hampton". Another reason you'll be glad the Montaukets were here first is that they discovered all the wonderful hiking trails available to you, so you can "discover" Montauk all over again, for yourself. Sourced with thanks from Gurneys Inn / Montauk Montauk is a natural and historical paradise on the east end of Long Island, New York. A peninsula, Montauk is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the south and Block Island Sound on the north. Montauk begins in the east with the Montauk Lighthouse, over two hundred years old, this landmark is open to the public.

The western end is terminated by Hither Hills State Park with an abundance of hiking and biking trails and miles of open beaches. Between these parks lies the oldest working ranch in the United States, golf courses, shops, galleries and many excellent restaurants with many different specialties. For those with nautical plans, you'll find a deep sea harbor, scores of boating adventures and some of the best fishing on the East Coast in the ponds, on the beaches and aboard the well fitted charter boats.
