Bandon

Bandon-by-the-sea is a small, charming coastal town. Its sights and shops are almost all within walking distance of the renovated Old Town section, which makes it the perfect place for strolling, shopping and dining while you're on holiday. The Old Town area is just off Highway 101, and includes a collection of art galleries, curio shops, restaurants, and the local Chamber of Commerce. It's right next to the boat basin, so it's easy to walk down to the basin for a breathtaking ocean view. Bandon is Oregon's unofficial Cranberry Capital, and has many cranberry products and over 900 acres of cranberry bogs to back up the claim. The Cranberry Festival, held in September, features a parade, dances, a crafts fair, exhibits of cranberry dishes and even a high school "Cranberry Bowl" football game. The Beach Loop is a popular road tour. It winds along the coast near many craggy sea stacks, including the Garden of the Gods, Table Rock, Cat and Kittens Rock and Elephant Rock. The most impressive of these is known as Face Rock. Local legend says that Face Rock is the face of an Indian maiden that was frozen into stone by an evil spirit. The Cat and Kittens Rock are her animals that were thrown into the sea and turned to stone by the same evil spirit. Interesting shops in 19th century buildings, spectacular coastal scenery, salmon and bottom fishing, windsurfing and just walking along the ocean beach all make Bandon-by-the-sea your perfect coastal vacation destination! For scenery, location and beauty, Bandon is a treasure to visit.
