Tekapo

This high country lake - 710 metres (2300 ft) above sea level - and the small village of about 350 people, provide an ideal place for either an overnight stop, or better still, spend a couple of days relaxing...there's no need to rush by at all! The lake is fed by the Godley, Cass and Macauley Rivers - and all these spots are good for fishing, as are the canals - and there is always Lake Alexadrina nearby. Besides serving as a summer playground for waterskiers, Lake Tekapo also serves as a reservoir to provide water to the hydroelectric generator that supplies power to the homes and businesses of South Canterbury.
