Kailua-Kona is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States, in the North Kona District of the Island of Hawaiʻi. It is the center of commerce and of the tourist industry on West Hawaiʻi.

This beautiful bay is the storied site of Captain Cook's arrival and ultimate demise. If you would like to visit the Captain Cook Monument it is best to rent a kayak and travel across the bay. This is a great spot for snorkeling or diving with calm crystal clear waters and plenty of coral and colorful fish. Turtles are commonly sighted here and spinner dolphins have been known to enjoy the waters of this bay as well.

Hilo is a coastal town in the State of HawaiÊ»i. It is the largest settlement on the island of HawaiÊ»i, and the second largest settlement in the state. The population was 40,759 at the 2000 census. Hilo is the county seat of HawaiÊ»i County, HawaiÊ»i, and is situated in the South Hilo District. The town overlooks Hilo Bay, and is near two shield volcanoes, Mauna Loa, considered active, and Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano upon which some of the best ground-based astronomical observatories are placed.  

Honaunau is in South Kona. The area has many macadamia nut and Kona coffee farms as well as great snorkeling in Honaunau and Kealakekua Bays

Kailua Kona is referred to as Kailua and Kona by locals, it is located on the west coast of Hawaii Island also known as the Big Island.  Activities include several world class championship golf courses, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling.
