The Michigan City Historical Society, a non-profit organization, leased the Old Lighthouse Museum in 1965 to restore and establish a museum, and in 1973 a replica of the original lantern tower was installed on the roof of the building. Furnishings in the museum were donated by interested citizens, and the museum is staffed and maintained by dedicated volunteer docents.
