The Waimakariri District is a political district of New Zealand, located in the South Island, on the eastern coast of north Canterbury, New Zealand. It is north of Christchurch and the Waimakariri River and is a part of the greater Canterbury Region. The name is Maori for cold river.

Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and the country's second-largest urban area. It is midway down the South Island's east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula which itself, since 2006, lies within the formal limits of Christchurch.

The seaside settlement of Kaikoura, situated midway between Christchurch and Picton on the rugged east coast of New Zealand's South Island, is overlooked by majestic mountains, which are snow-capped for many months of the year.

Perched on top of the hills overlooking the beautiful Lyttelton Harbour, Lyttelton is a quaint township with early architecture and scenic views. Located just 20 minutes from Christchurch this town has a busy port and many recreational activities.

Rotorua is a city on the southern shore of Lake Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand, and Rotorua District is the encompassing local authority area.

Sumner is a small beachside village with a wonderful array of cafes, restaurants, bakeries and boutique shops just 20 minutes from Christchurch City centre on New Zealand's South Island.
