Bowness-on-Windermere is a sprawling tourist town on the shore of Windermere, about halfway along the 12 mile length of the lake between Waterhead at the North end, and Lakeside at the South end. It developed after the opening of the railway line from Oxenholme and Kendal to Windermere in 1847. Bowness was the nearest accessible point on the lake. The Victorian influence can be seen everywhere - in the late 19th century, wealthy businessmen from Lancashire built large residences overlooking the lake, and many of these have now been converted to hotels

Hawkshead is a village in the Lake District, England. It is one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District with many buildings dating from the 1600s. It has a lively community and a high pub to population ratio.

Derwent Water, the most picturesque lake in Cumbria is only a ten-minute stroll, where you can catch the regular ferry to any of the six jetties around the lake. From there you can walk on Cat Bells, Maiden Moor and the many other beautiful fells, or visit Ashness Bridge, Lodore Falls and the village of Grange.

Cockermouth is a town that lies at the confluence of the River Cocker as it flows into the River Derwent. It is located on the northwest fringe of the English Lake District. Landmarks include the sizeable but partly ruined Norman castle, the home of Pamela, Lady Egremont. Built at the confluence of the Rivers Cocker and Derwent, the castle has a tilting tower which hangs Pisa-like over Jennings Brewery. The castle, with its preserved dungeons, is only opened to the public once a year during the annual town festival.

Workington is a town and port on the west coast of Cumbria, England at the mouth of the River Derwent.

Royal Quays is an area of North Shields, North Tyneside, England. It is on the site of former docks and contains the pre-existing North Shields International Ferry Terminal.

Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Lake District of England. It is long and narrow, approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) long and 3/4 mile wide, but is also extremely shallow, with a maximum depth of about 70 feet (21 m). The lake lies at the foot of Skiddaw, near the town of Keswick.
