The olive grove
Akrotiri Estate was one of the first olive groves established in the area and produces extra virgin olive oil, from over 1,000 mature trees - representing over 15 different olive varietals from Greece, Israel, Tuscany and Spain.
Venue and functions
Akrotiri Estate is a peaceful and relaxing venue for business retreats and away-days and other corporate, incentive or golf-day events.
The grounds provide a picturesque setting for weddings, celebrations and special occasions. A professional photographer is available on site.
Luxurious guest accommodation
The recently renovated open plan living and dining area is self-contained and private, with its own separate entrance ? guests are made to feel at home and can come and go as they please.
The living room has patio doors opening onto a sunny side terrace, with views across the park-like garden and the Tararua Mountain Range beyond. Akrotiri Estate?s location is magical. The morning and afternoon sun streams in through a number of French doors in the living area.
Luxurious Italian leather furniture, photographic artwork, oriental rugs, sun blinds and sumptuous drapes provide a sophisticated ambience in which guests can relax - after a hard day's wine tasting, golf or shopping.
Take it easy in the living room, read a book or magazine from the library, watch a movie or listen to music and enjoy a glass of wine, whilst taking in the view. A selection of DVDs and CDs are available for guest use.
There is a log fire and heat pump for cosy winter evenings and air-conditioning for hot, dry summer days.
Comfortable bedrooms with luxury linen
There are two bedrooms with comfortable queen beds that ensure a restful night?s sleep. The Spa Pool room has patio doors, which open out to the spa pool and terrace ? which has elevated views over the gardens and the Tararua Mountain Range. This room has an en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet.
The Lavender room has patio doors, which open out to a lavender hedge and garden views. It has a large bathroom with shower and toilet, located just outside the bedroom.
The crisp, Egyptian 400 thread count luxury cotton linen, cotton bathrobes for each guest and new carpets and drapes enhance the feeling of relaxation in this luxury retreat.
Complimentary toiletries, thick cotton towels and face cloths can be found in the bathrooms.
Heaters and electric blankets ensure that you will be warm and cosy whatever the season of your visit.
Amazing spa views
Outdoor patio furniture is available for your use, as is the large and luxurious, top of the range, Hot Springs six-person spa pool. This is kept at a constant temperature appropriate to the season. The spa has massage jets for sore backs and is amazing for rejuvenating even the weariest of travellers.
Guests love to retreat to the spa. You can take in the stunning views over the Tararua mountain range during the day and watch the night sky, as it gets dark. Martinborough has very little light pollution and so the whole of the constellation of the Southern Hemisphere is easy to see ? and it?s not unusual to see shooting stars and satellites as you lie back and relax.
Continental breakfast provisions are provided
Yoghurt, seasonal fresh fruit, bread and butter, water, orange juice, milk and freshly ground coffee can be found in the fridge.
In the buffet bar you will find a selection of cereals, jams, a selection of teas and other beverages, as well as crockery, a selection of glasses, a kettle and toaster.
When available, fresh fruit from the orchard is left in the lounge for guests.
Depending on the season and at a small additional cost, fresh, free-range eggs (laid by the Akrotiri Estate chooks) can be cooked and served to order.
Note that there are no guest cooking facilities at Akrotiri Estate.
