The American School of Tangier, Morocco, is an independent, coeducational day and boarding School which offers an educational programme from pre-kindergarten through to grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The American School of Tangier was founded in 1950 and the School year comprises of 3 trimesters extending from September 10 to December 14 from January 7 to March 14, and from March 31 to June 21. The School is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees elected for 2-year terms and the School is incorporated in the State of Delaware and registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a U.S. tax-exempt institution. The curriculum is that of the United States college-preparatory Schools. Instruction is in English. French is taught as a foreign language beginning in grade 5, and Arabic is required of Moroccan students in all grades and is open to all students. In the 2007-2008 School year, there are 41 full-time and 3 part-time faculty members and at the beginning of the 2007-2008 School year, enrollment was 325 (PK-grade 12). The American School of Tangier is housed in 29 modern classrooms located on an 11-acre site. Facilities include a 12,500-volume library, a science lab, and computer lab. This year the School built a gymnasium and a swimming pool.
