Calgary Zoo in Calgary, Alberta, Canada | Zoo

Located in the heart of Calgary, Western Canada, Canada, the Calgary Zoo is a world-class facility focused on education and conservation. It is also a non-profit organization. Established in 1929, the Calgary Zoo was among the first in Canada, and is currently the second largest Zoo in the country.
The Calgary Zoo's exhibits are divided by continent, so the animals and plants you see in each area are representative of what you'd see in the wild of each global region.
One of two contrasting African ecosystems at Calgary Zoo in Western Canada, the TransAlta Rainforest merges plants, animals and information. You will be immersed in the steamy atmosphere of the rainforest, its sights sounds, smells and sweltering climate.
Occupying 2,900 square metres (31,000 square feet) the TransAlta Rainforest features a myriad of African rainforest flora and is the home for many African animal species.
The African Savannah building at Calgary Zoo offers a sweeping vista of hippos, giraffes, red river hogs and a massive baobab tree. A 340,000-litre (80,000-gallon) indoor pool for hippos offers a rare view of these giant, graceful creatures in their underwater realm.
In the warmer months, the doors lift to connect the building with the rest of the Savannah, home to zebras and ostriches. Many other animals of the grasslands, including our African lions, also reside in the Savannah.
Journey to Eurasia at Calgary Zoo and discover the wonders of the exotic species of this part of the world. Visit Amur (Siberian) tigers, snow leopards and alpine ibex. Watch the playful Japanese macaques and the adorable red pandas as they explore their habitat and take a relaxing stroll through the Eurasian Marsh. Complete your travels to the Far East with a visit to the Asian elephants in their new home, Elephant Crossing.
