Welcome to Granny Mouse House nestling in the mountains of Hogsback in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

Granny Mouse House is a Full-service Guest House, offering a maximum of 6 concurrent guests the option of booking Bed and Breakfast, or Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Self Catering Cottages are also available, not all situated on the same property. We enjoy the accolade of being the first catered establishment in Hogsback to have attained 4 star Superior accreditation from both AA and TGCSA. We cater for adult guests, in a sophisticated yet relaxed country atmosphere.

Large, landscaped grounds and views of all the surrounding mountains enhance the sense of restful, quiet respite, in a Village situated high up in the Amatola mountains of the Eastern Cape.

The 4 star rated Guest House is considered an adult social environment. Children under 12 years of age are accommodated with their parents on a self-catering basis only.

We take a maximum of 3 couples in the Guest House and therefore at table. Dinners and breakfasts are served around a single ageing, not quite antique dining table.

Pre-dinner drinks are served in our cosy, log-fire warmed thatched lounge, accompanied by a wide selection of music and stimulating conversation. Several life-long friendships have been born in this manner over the years we have provided our modest services.

Guest bedrooms, each individually furnished, are all ensuite with individual private patios, pool and garden facing. Tea and coffee facilities are provided free of charge.

All bedrooms are strictly non-smoking, no exceptions are made.
According to the attitude of fellow-guests, smoking is permitted in the lounge area.The quaffing of wines and beer is actively encouraged, for medicinal purposes.TVs in rooms are not likely to be provided any time soon.

Guests are encouraged to watch at dawn and dusk for the endemic Cape Parrots, quite likely to become extinct in our lifetime, or smell the roses or listen to the frogs singing, or feel the rain on their faces whilst walking the forests. That, amongst other healthy and robust pursuits is what makes the Hogsback experience so special and we will not aid or abet any distortions of that.

Sports fans are catered for at the Pubs, the Proprietors of which have installed large screen TVs, they will sell you cold beer and love to shout along with you, regardless of who you support.

We have 2 Self Catering units at Granny Mouse House, each sleeping a couple, sharing queen beds.

Our simple thatched rondavel unit, situated near the pool, is aimed at the budget-conscious. Quaint and cosy, it has a private patio and braai facilities, en-suite with shower, ideal for a 2 night stay. Fully equipped and serviced.

Our Orchard apartment is more upmarket, en-suite with shower in a large modern bathroom, full modern kitchen, lounge area with TV and HiFi. Private patio and braai facilities in a walled courtyard garden.

A third 2 bedroomed ( both en-suite ) unit, sleeping 4-6 persons is available self-catering, situated on a separate, elevated 3 acre property on the slopes of Tor Doone. Newly renovated in 2009, "Byeways" commands majestic and uninterrupted views over the 3 Hogs mountains. Finished to 5 Star standards and priced accordingly, this fully equipped and serviced unit appeals to the very discerning.

Guests who book into the Self Catering units are considered to be desiring of being left alone. Apart from servicing of units, which is always done in a discreet manner and at a convenient time, this wish is respected at all times.
