Nuestra Tierra in Half Moon Bay, California in the United States, offers art and folkart from Mexico's finest artists, designers and craftsmen, including Sergio Bustamante and Emilia Castillo. Our range of products includes Black Chamba Cookware, Oaxacan Woodcarvings, Mata Ortiz Pottery, Cocuchas and more.
We created Nuestra Tierra in 2000, with the purpose of bringing the very best of Mexican traditional art to a wider audience.
We have stayed true to this purpose by continuing to research and dig for the best artists in each of the many types of Mexican art we represent in our Half Moon Bay, California, gallery. After the research, we then contact and visit the artist (typically in his or her home) and select the individual pieces ourselves. These buying forays take us to many remote towns and villages spread over eleven states throughout Mexico.
By working directly with the artists (as opposed to purchasing through a distributor), we know that we are finding and selling the best pieces available. We also know that the artist is receiving a fair price for his work and that the customer is receiving a good value for his purchase. In addition, we have the wonderful experience of communicating with the artist, understanding his intentions and seeing the work that goes into the creation of his art.
In addition to the satisfaction of working with the artists, we have the satisfaction of working with a wide range of customers, both those with an extensive knowledge of Mexico and its traditional art and those who are new to the delights of this world. We thrive on the wonderful feedback our customers have given us.
We also have the satisfaction of giving something back to Mexico, a portion of our sales goes to fund worthy projects there. Last year Nuestra Tierra participated with Rotary International in funding the purchase of much needed equipment and supplies for a Senior Citizens? Home in Tehuacan, Puebla.
Both Nidia and Charles are deeply connected to Mexico, Nidia through birth and Charles through predilection, hence the name Nuestra Tierra, which means ?Our Land.?
We also chose the name for its other meaning, ?Our Earth,? because the works of art we sell are made from natural materials by people who live very close to the earth. The name ?Nuestra Tierra,? reflects the spirit of what we are trying to accomplish with our gallery in Half Moon Bay, California.
