Calibre 19''', 1894
Designer: François Chevillat
Description: One of the first-ever Omega models, fitted with the renowned 19''' calibre,, characterised both by the perfection of its design, by François Chevillat, and the ingenuity of certain mechanisms, such as time-setting using the winding stem and by the relatively modest price. It was manufactured using methods that were revolutionary at the time, in the Berne region of Switzerland.
Considered the last word in watchmaking technology of the time, the movement was named Omega by analogy with the 24th and last letter of the Greek alphabet, a synonym for accomplishment, completion, summum, maximum, perfection and crowning excellence. It was an astonishing success and its name was given to the company in 1903.
The revolutionary DE VILLE CO-AXIAL as an example, this section shows you the evolution of an OMEGA watch. Before any new OMEGA watch is launched, it passes through rigorous and well defined processes of design, technological development and quality control.
The Art of Design
The creation of a new watch starts with an internal brainstorming session based on a marketing brief which is translated into sketches, then industrial designs and ends with a first 3D prototype.
Technological development goes hand in hand with the evolution of the design. Our designers and engineers work very closely together when creating a new OMEGA watch.
Quality is taken into account from the moment a new idea is born and remains an important theme throughout the entire development period.
