Penzance, United Kingdom's most south-westerly cycling club, Penzance Wheelers Cycling Club serves the cycling community of West Cornwall and has been in existence since the 1930's. With a large and active membership, Penzance Wheelers Cycling Club holds Sunday club-runs, regular club nights and events as diverse as roller-racing and hill-climbs.
As we have seen recently accidents can happen. To make sure that you the organiser, Penzance Wheelers Cycling Club and the riders are covered by the CTT insurance you need to comply with the following points. It may seem to be over the top, but it does not involve much work if you prepare well in advance, especially as far as recruiting helpers and collecting the equipment are concerned. All Penzance Wheelers Cycling Club members should note that it was agreed at the last 2 AGMs that if you want to ride any of these popular midweek races then you must volunteer to help out at one or more races. Arrange timekeeper, pusher-off (optional), and 2 marshalls, and check their availability in the week before the race.
Bring (or make arrangements for) numbers, signs, flags, marshall's safety jackets, stopwatches, first aid kit, CTT signing-on sheet, results sheet, risk assessment and pen. You need to check well in advance who is in possession of these items. Make sure riders print their full name and provide a signature. Make sure that riders know that they must ride straight past the finish, and not congregate around the timekeeper. Study the risk assessment in advance to make sure you know where the signs should be placed.
