Plato Cafe is a relaxed eatery located on the harbourfront of Dunedin, New Zealand.
Occupying a former hostel for seafarers from around the world, Plato Cafe retains its links to the sea through an ever-changing menu which features an emphasis on seafood, but also showcases a wide range of local produce and beverages.
Plato Cafe's philosophy is simple. We aim to provide good food, matched with good service, in comfortable surroundings. We don't like to over-complicate food. And we're totally subjective, we cook what we like to eat ourselves.
Nigel brings over thirty years' experience to his kitchen at Plato Cafe in Dunedin. His previous roles include several years as Head Chef at Sails Restaurant at Westhaven Marina, Auckland, in-house catering for ASB Bank's corporate headquarters, and the establishment of the renowned Art Ducko Caf in Auckland.
In addition to running the front-of-house at Plato Cafe, Rebecca is a writer and editor whose previous roles have included senior communications and marketing positions in television production and publishing.
With an amazing range of fresh produce and world-leading wines right on our doorstep, we don't need to look far to find the best items for Plato Cafe's ever-changing menus.
At Plato Cafe we use the freshest ingredients, wherever possible sourced locally. These include organically-grown herbs and, when available, salad greens, also the best South Island fish and seafood, and local meats, all washed down with hard-to-beat Central Otago wines and locally produced beers and soft drinks.
