An expanded buffet and a new Mongolian grill may have played a role in Singapore Sam's winning The Herald's Readers' Choice Award.
Singapore Sam's staff was thrilled with the honour. "We were really excited," says Stacy Provins, general manager.
The Mongolian Grill, part of the buffet, turns patrons into cooks at Singapore Sam's.
Patrons choose from raw ingredients, and literally make their own stirfry. Along with the ingredients, the grill contains all the sauces and trimmings.
Once a patron chooses the ingredients, a Mongolian chef cooks it right in front of the patron.
Singapore Sam's buffet now has more of a variety, ranging from appetizers to desserts. The buffet is open every night for dinner and Monday through Friday for lunch.
In addition to the buffet, Singapore Sam's offers a full menu of Peking-style Chinese food for discerning patrons. Those patrons have developed exquisite tastes.
Out-of-province patrons from out of province have come to Singapore Sam's and ordered food to take home on the plane.
Superior food comes from superior staff, and Singapore Sam's has a veteran contingent. Most have been there for 20 years.
Singapore Sam's prepares this food for extended hours until 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday, 3 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 3:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Its late hours make it a choice of many on Electric Avenue, Calgary, Western Canada.
Singapore Sam's has become a hot spot for the after-bar, late-night crowd, particularly on weekends.
As well as serving a full menu, Singapore Sam's offers delivery to anywhere in Calgary, Western Canada. This delivery service has become an extremely busy part of the company's operations.
