Nestling in a quiet Scottish corner near to the Harbour in the tranquil coastal village of St. Abbs, Scotland, Springbank Cottage offers the ideal opportunity to relax and unwind. Formerly a fisherman's dwelling this early nineteenth century Cottage has been converted into a comfortable and cosy three star B & B with an adjoining open-air Tea Garden.
Springbank Cottage is built on three levels and on the top floor has a large en suite double room plus a twin room with an adjacent private bathroom. Both rooms enjoy spectacular sea views and can accommodate an extra single bed to sleep an additional adult or child.
The third letting single or small double room, also with an adjacent bathroom, is located on the ground floor and is particularly suitable for guests who might have difficulties negotiating flights of stairs.
For the active there are many lovely walks in the immediate vicinity and in the hills close by. There are opportunities for sea, loch and river Fishing and boat trips can be taken from the Harbour.
The sea around St. Abbs with its crystal clear water is a well-known scuba Diving area. The adjacent headland with its towering Cliffs is a noted National Trust Nature Reserve boasting a wide variety of bird life. The glorious sandy Beach at Coldingham Bay now established as a popular surfing location lies five minutes walk along the Cliffs.
Beyond the nearby Fishing port of Eyemouth and just twelve miles away lies the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. St. Abbs is within an hours drive of Edinburgh and many Border towns with their mill shops. Lindesfarne castle and ancient priory on the Holy Isle, the Farne Islands and the Cheviot Hills can also be reached easily.
For the less active you can relax in the Tea Garden or wander round the Harbour observing the cormorants, the waves crashing on the rocks, the fishermen mending their nets and you might even catch the sight of the occasional seal or dolphin.
Hire of Cycles, Diving & Surfing Equipment: Cycle hire facilities are available in Berwick (12 miles) and there is a choice of two local Dive Centres where scuba equipment can be rented and guided dives from boats or from the shore can be arranged.
Boat Trips: Boat trips around the towering sea Cliffs of St. Abbs Head are particularly popular during the seabirds' nesting period from April to June and can be arranged through the charter boats in St. Abbs or Eyemouth Harbours.
Clifftop Safaris: Guided Off-Road trips by Landrover exploring the unique Berwickshire coastal scenery are available and include coverage of the local geological, botanical, historical and marine areas of interest.
Fishing: Sea Fishing is popular in the area either from local charter boats or from the rocks around St. Abbs and Coldingham Bay. For fly fishermen there are well-stocked lochs in the area and the river Tweed and its various tributaries are a short drive away. Fishing rods and other equipment are available in Eyemouth, Duns or Berwick.
