Sunset Beach Restaurant. The best Restaurant in Camps Bay - a fact in keeping withe Miami atmosphere that has developed along the Camps Bay beach front. Sunset Beach Restaurant is a must visit, even in winter. It is fabulous if you like oysters and champagne but, it that does'nt get your pulse racing, there are plenty of other delicious dishes and drinks to choose from including a stunning array of Mauritian fare. Owned and managed by Nigel and Maxine Newhouse (who also own the adjacent Tuscany Beach Cafe), Sunset Beach Restaurant boasts an oyster tank that's built into the bar and houses oysters from all over the country. Depending on your preference, you can choose from Namibian, Kynsna or wild river oysters. Besides fresh oysters, however Sunset Beach also serves a wide variety of cooked oysters such as deep-fried oysters with chopped avocado, red peppers and lime wasabi dressing.
But if oysters aren't for you, there are plenty of alternatives on the menu. You can order seafood kebabs, chicken breasts stuffed with mascarpone cheese, sage and prosciutto as well as some interesting vegetarian dishes such as a vegetarian tower which is made up of a stack of layered grilled aubergine, tomato, basil and goats' milk cheese.
They also offer a delicious Thai Prawn Soup and a selection of salads such as the Beetroot and Goats Cheese salad, which is a mixture of freshly cooked beetroot, green beans, goats cheese and an olive oil, garlic and caper dressing.
The newest member of the Sunset Beach team is Mauritian chef Jean Paul Gopaul. Jean Paul has introduced Mauritian fare including traditional Crele-Style Paelle served in the pan and Indian Ocean Curry served with papadums, chutney, coconut and sambals.
In a clever move, Sunset Beach serves champagne and wine by the bottle and the glass, so if your drink tasts are at odds with your partner's, you can still both order something you like.
You will find Sunset Beach Restaurant on Victoria Road, Camps Bay.
