Thornthwaite Grange was built at the beginning of the 18th century and was originally the village manor house. It is now run as a Guest House, but every effort has been made to retain the atmosphere of a country home. Accommodation is available for non-smokers only. There is ample space for parking in the grounds of Thornthwaite Grange.
For evening meals there are two traditional Lakeland pubs and a restaurant within 1.5 miles, and a great variety of restaurants and pubs in Keswick, 3.5 miles away.
The location is quiet and peaceful, but with the A66 being just one mile away we are not isolated, and the various attractions that the rest of the Lake District in the United Kingdom, has to offer are easily accessible.
Thornthwaite Grange is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District. But for the days that you wish to spend in the immediate area, there is plenty to see and do.
Guests are welcome to relax in the large garden and soak up the fantastic views, or for the more energetic, there is an outdoor table-tennis table.
The garden is a haven for a wide variety of birds, and we are fortunate enough to be in a designated zone for the protection of red squirrels, which are frequent visitors.
Thornthwaite Grange backs on to Thornthwaite Forest, which has walks and cycle tracks to suit all tastes. Whinlatter Centre (30-40 minutes walk away) is a popular tourist attraction.
