Waterwheel Guesthouse

Waterwheel Guesthouse in Ambleside, Cumbria, United Kingdom | Guest House

Visitors have long been enchanted with the picturesque setting in which the whitewashed Waterwheel Guesthouse nestles in the heart of Ambleside.   Waterwheel Guesthouse, now a Grade II listed building, sits on an ancient cobbled street overlooking the tumbling waters of Stockghyll.  Upon the opposite side of the stream sits the waterwheel that gave the guesthouse its name.  The waterwheel can still be seen to turn on occasion.

We have recently renovated Waterwheel Guesthouse, a three hundred year old cottage, our aim being to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.  Nothing twee or chintzy we hope, but an historic and charming bed and breakfast. There are just three bedrooms, all with proper bathrooms, two of which include Victorian-style clawfoot bathtubs.

The many and varied shops, restaurants and hostelries of Ambleside are all but a short walk, or head straight onto the fells that tower over the town.

We look forward to welcoming you to this, the most beautiful corner of the United Kingdom.

The slate-flagged floors of the entrance hall and dining room of Waterwheel Guesthouse are complimented by hand-coloured Victorian Lake District prints, heavy oak antique furniture and the evocative aroma of wood polish.  Further inside is a unique curved set of stairs, several hundred years old.  Head up the sometimes steep stairs to the bedrooms for a perfect cosy romantic retreat or to freshen up after a good day on the fells.
