Maldives info
The height of the Maldives rarely reaches above two meters. It is the perfect retreat away from the world on palm fringed islands with sparkling white beaches, turquoise lagoons, clear warm waters and coral reefs teeming with abundant varieties of marine flora and fauna. Scuba divers are in for a treat. The word atoll is actually derived from the word atholhu in Dhivehi, the Maldivian language. There is historical and archaeological evidence that the islands have been inhabited for over 5,000 years. The Maldives were part of the important Indian Ocean trade route and over time were settled by people from all over the world. This leaves the origins of the people enshrined in mystery.
