Hong Kong info
Hong Kong is located in south China and consists of 4 parts: Hong Kong island, Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories and 260 surrounding smaller islands. Hong Kong Island, only 80 square kilometres, is the heart of Hong Kong. It is separated from the mainland by a natural harbour. There are 6.8 million packed into this city, making it one of the most densely populated places in the world. Hong Kong boasts an efficient transport network, shopping centres for every occasion, world famous wining and dining, while the temples and quiet corners of parks are an oasis of quiet amongst all the activity. The north of the island is where you will find the shopping, entertainment and commercial districts (famous for its gold and foreign exchange market), while the southern district is where you can get away from it all and explore nice beaches, cafes and markets. Enjoy spectacular views across the city from The Peak – ride up on The Peak Tram that has been in operation since 1888. The steepest gradient is 27 degrees, which offers you an unforgettable journey. The Kowloon Peninsula is also an important part of the bustling city, while the New Territories cover most of the land area of Hong Kong. Lantau Island is the site of the new International Airport and Hong Kong Disneyland. The tranquil Po Lin Monastery and Big Buddha are other important attractions.
