Welcome to Lier!
The municipality is a nice place to live and to visit. Lier's external face is that of its landscape fertile soil, forestry areas and characteristic ravine valleys, exciting animal and plantlife. 10% of the vegetable produce of Norway comes from Lier, and the municipality is very well known for its apples, strawberries, lettuce and cabbage. Lier muncipality has approximately 21.750 inhabitants and covers a area of 302,0 km2 and lies in Buskerud. Lier offer a variety of areas for outdoor activities, both by the fjord, in the Lier valley and in the woods.
You have the possibility to experience quiet and beauty in Lier; activites related to fishing and swimming, walking in the wild or in the open fields during the summer as well as the winter. Visit for instance the Asdøl juvet Canyon, climb the Storstein Mountain or the Hørtekollen and take a rest at Engersand beach by Drammen's fjord. A popular festival with lots of fun can be enjoyed during the Lier Days in June, every second year.
People have been living in "Green Lier" since the stone age, and you will find both a rural district's castle and grave piles as a reminder of our oldest settlement. Now a residental area. Old mine ruins can be seen in many places, and the old marble works at Tranby stands an 8 metres high marble obelisk. St. Hallvard, the Patron Saint of Oslo, came from Lier.

APPLE FESTIVAL
An apple festival is arranged in Lier every autumn, and it is not accidental that Lier placed the apple-flower in its coat of arms.
ENGERSAND
Engersand beach by Drammen's fjord. Activites related to fishing and swimming.
The inhabitants of Lier are very active and constantly arrange conserts, shows and trips for all interested parties. The motorsport facility, Lyngåsbanen, is worth a visit.
