Scrabster is the most northerly port on the mainland UK and offers a ferry service to the Orkney Islands every day of the week. It has a busy fish market for the commercial fishing vessels that call in here.

The Northlink ferry (MV Hamnavoe) leaves from Scrabster regularly for Stromness in Orkney. In summer months, Smyril Line operates a weekly service to the Faroe Islands. Smyril Line started a service from Scrabster to Iceland in 2008.
